I’m your mama, it’s my job.
And your daddy’s.
To teach you about the things with weight, and grace and love.
To show you how to be peculiar.
To point to the Light so you will turn towards it.
On your own.
Look, little one.
There’s the path.
Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man’s sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true.
~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

I love the simplicity of this. Talking about something that’s not simple at all…leading them down the correct paths; guiding them and not pushing them, holding their hands and not pulling them. Letting them become their own. Knowing and not knowing so much all at once. “Look, little one. There’s the path.” oof.

Beautiful…I confess I was so caught up in the words, I almost didn’t notice the photo and then I did and oh, it all made sense. Lovely, lovely, lovely. Thank you.

This line is pure poetry: “To show you how to be peculiar.”
Have you read any of Robin Jones Gunn’s teen lit, by chance? http://www.robingunn.com/ Her characters use a phrase that I love: “peculiar treasures.”
