Some days are green.
Gloriously alive and thriving and showing you Jesus in every turn.
Other days are brown, dead. Charred.
It’s the in-between that matters.
How do we prepare, prevent, pre-imagine the brown
so we can stay in the green?
You will need that heart tomorrow, dear one. Protect it today.
The Shield of Faith, the Belt of Truth, the Feet of Peace.
The Sword, the Word.
The green lets you rest, step into intimacy, find joy and love.
You don’t need armor to go to that secret place with God.
You wouldn’t wear armor to bed.
But you need the armor in the world.
In the in between, the befores and afters.
That’s when it’s called upon.
Before it’s too late.
Before the flaming arrows.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints — Ephesians 6:11-18

Oh how I LOVE this! Especially the statement that we don’t need to wear our armor in our secret place with God. So good.

Seems talk about putting on our armour is popping up everywhere these days. Wise, wise words indeed!
During Creativity Boot Camp, when the promt was “heavy metal” what I created came from the full armour…
God speaks.. are we listening yet?
Beautiful words.

@HisFireFly, Thank you! By the way, I love how you said “God is speaking” when talking about seeing a common theme online. I am in somewhat of a fog lately so I didn’t know this was “current” at all — and this topic was Spirit-pressed into my heart today when I looked at the blank screen. Inspiring.

Right now is a green time in my marriage. A time when the butterflies flutter, the joy in each other highlights every occasion and we’re in sync. This morning I had a split second thought, “Cherish this. Remember this. The tough times will come around again.” I didn’t think it to be pessimistic or because I know of some looming conflict. It’s just that after almost a decade of marriage I know that life is a cycle. It’s not always up, and thank God it’s not always down. It’s learning to travel through the valley of Bacca, going from strength to strength. What a wonderful reminder to put on the armor, the tools, God provided us. Also, how freeing to stand in the truth that it’s nothing of this world that is battling against us, but instead it’s the enemy of our God and through Him we are more than conquerors.

@Melissa Brotherton, “more than conquerers”…I’ve been listening to a song with that as the chorus, on repeat, for the last 3 days. Beautiful!

Beautiful words that brought tears to my eyes. What a way with words- that you have been able to make that Scripture into your own. Oh, how I love it. I may just print it out and put it on my fridge.
Thanks for the sweet reminder.

Sometimes I spend too much time thinking about the brown rather than preparing my heart for it. And what better verse to meditate on when having these thoughts than these verses in Ephesians. The more clothed in the Spirit we are, the easier it is to stand strong, stand firm in the brown times. *Must* remember this. A new memorization is on my plate.
Thank you. {Your blog is one of my new favorite reads. I love your beautiful writing and the way you weave Him and His truths into your posts.}

@Hyacynth, yes I know. We do too, which is why I was so helped when God laid this on my heart yesterday. We are like “oh there’s the brown, again, how much brown will I have to endure?, why, why, why” and forget to just STOP the runaway train instead of watching it. Not only can the armor help us stand strong, it actually helps STOP the brown and turn it back to green. It’s protection of the most perfect kind. Thank you for your sweet words. xo
