To the Rock and Back

Top of the Rock

Top of the Rock, Rockefeller Center Observation Deck, NYC

December did have a few good times to offer, and even though I hadn’t left the house in weeks I knew I couldn’t miss our planned trip to NYC.  My husband and I were just going for a couple days – no kids – to see my sister in law perform in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.  She is a Rockette, has been for years, but we’d never seen her show.

I couldn’t possibly cancel, and it was going to be only two days, so I resolved to sit down often and hoped the cold air would at least blow away bad smells that made me sick. I wasn’t even craving a cupcake from Magnolia Bakery, so you can imagine the level of morning sickness I had reached!

The show was incredible, so fun, and the backstage tour entertaining as well (met a very friendly camel named Ted).  We felt blessed to have this alone time, and took our time and took it all in.

We got to head to the Top of the Rock, which is the observation deck above Rockefeller Center that I didn’t even know existed!  It was well below freezing up there, but gorgeous to see the entire city from way up high.  Next we wandered over to the big famous Christmas tree and peeked through the crowd to see joyful people ice skating.  I’ve never been in NYC at Christmas time, so this whole experience was just incredible for me.  Glowy, glowy angels.

Little did we know that a huge blizzard was heading our way, that would strand us in NYC for two additional days, with our eventual flight only getting us part way home, where we then had to rent a car and drive 3 more hours before finally seeing our home sweet home.  We were blessed with extra family time in NYC, but were more than ready to get back to the South and out of all this crazy “winter” stuff by then.

It is so nice to have a home to come back to, with people waiting for you that love you and miss you.  Not everyone has that, and I don’t take it for granted.  It’s where your soul feels warm and cozy and relaxation is the order of the day.

Where did you get to travel to over the holidays?  I’d love to hear about it!

I always love looking at your beautiful pictures. Sounds like you and hubby had a nice time even if you were stranded. Kev and I got lucky. Flew out of Chicago Friday 12/18 for an awesome 8 day vacation in Jamaica before the snow hit and luckily got back in the day after Christmas especially after there was 6+ inches of snow up in our area (NW burbs). Great vacation and already getting ready to book for next Dec.

We wish you all a very Happy New Year!

That sounds like so much fun! I would love to be stuck in New York! Ha. Glad you had a good time! I went with family to Florida. Since I’m in Wisconsin, it was nice to have some warm weather!

Despite being stuck in NYC for an extra 2 days, sounds like you had a magical time. I am so glad you were able to break away from the morning sickness for a bit, you deserve a fantastic vacation!

We went NO WHERE for Christmas this year and it was so nice. I loved staying home all Christmas Day with no where to be and nothing to do but play Wii and be together.

Happy New Year my sweet friend!
