Our road trip from Chicago-land to Charleston was the first real road trip we’ve ever done with the boys. No easing into it, we had 900 miles, 2 cars and 2 moving trucks (and a dog) packed up and on the road to the South. It was quite the carni caravan.
I prepared individual baskets for each boy that sat next to their seats, filled with things like books, coloring books, blank paper, markers pens and crayons, little toys, Leapfrog games, and more. I also had a bag of dollar store toys that I’d hand out periodically (they had to earn them with good behavior) which kept the “what to do” situation fresh and interesting. The two days and nights on the road were tolerable except for the last 2-3 hours of each day. After about 6pm they had pretty much reached their limit, it was too dark to do anything but attempt to wrestle and then beat up your brother, so those hours will pretty much haunt my sleep.
The best part of the trip for the kids was how comfortable they were. Britax has sent us a couple of seats over the past year, and while we’ve always loved them, this trip really proved their worth.

Our latest addition to the family is the Britax Parkway SG
Not only does that seat back make sleeping much easier on their backs and necks, it also provides what Britax calls “Britax True Side Impact Protection” with the walls and “wings” of the seat back. The oldest is ready to graduate to a booster and pass his car seat to the newest addition. This would be great! I would choose the sesame, as it would match the minivan (affectionately known as the mommy bus).
