Britax Roundabout 50 Love

by Arianne on August 17, 2009

A couple months ago I read a news story out of Milwaukee about a little boy who survived a train hitting his car, the car totaled, but he was in his car seat totally uninjured. The car seat? The Britax Roundabout. When I read that story I got chills! Can you imagine??

So today when I went to write about the Britax Roundabout 50 Convertible Car Seat (that Britax sent me) I thought it might be fun to *show* you rather than just tell you why I like it so much. As if the train story wasn’t reason enough, here’s my take:

Update:  Check out this video interview with the family who was in the train accident — and bring a tissue!  Amazing!

He is just too stinkin' cute! Love the term camoooflauge! Safety seats are so important. I cringe when I see kiddos loose in the car!! Thanks for sharing your review of it!

You should totally do more videos- I loved this! So fun! Jonah was such a good little participant, and so adorable! How did you get those sparkles along with your blog name at the end? I especially liked that!

I absolutely love this car seat too, but I did notice in the video that it's not strapped in properly. The base of the seat should be completely flat (flush) with the vehicle seat, and the seat belt should be going through the car seat back harness area not under the seat (which is for a rear-facing position). It's very important to know the proper way to install a car seat in your vehicle in order for it to function properly as a safety seat in an accident.

We don't have it installed with a seatbelt, but are using the LATCH
system (I guess that's the belt your referring to?). We have the seat
flat too, I think that my hubs propped it up a bit when we shot this
video. Thanks for the concern.

Hi,

Like another poster commented the seat in the video is installed incorrectly, the latch straps are threaded through the rear facing belt path instead of the forward facing belt path. Also Britax encourages rear facing, and if a child is under 35lbs they should remain rear facing :)

Cute kiddo! I have this seat in Pistachio and I LOVE it

I also noticed that the harness is coming from under his shoulders. For forward facing the harness needs to be postitioned at or above the shoulders and for rear facing it is at or under the shoulders. If you have the harness under the shoulders while forward facing the child could suffer spinal compression in an accident. I have found it very easy to rethread the harness :)
