Suri’s Ladybug Shoes (A Giveaway!)

Suri's Ladybug Shoes

Today on Oprah, they are re-airing the show where Oprah goes to Telluride and interviews Tom Cruise in his home. Some of you may have seen it back in May when it first aired, some maybe not, but the interesting thing about this episode is more than just Tom or his house or what he says about that last time he saw Oprah. It’s also about some sweet little ladybug shoes that Oprah notices in the Cruise mudroom, right upon entering their house. She comments on the tiny cute shoes, Tom remarks that ladybugs are Suri’s favorite, and they move on.

From this small mention, came a huge wave of press and demand for those little ladybug shoes. The exciting part is, my friend and all of our blog sistah, Katja Presnal, was the one to give Suri those shoes!  Katja used to live in Colorado, and through a mutual friend was able to give the Cruise family a big gift basket from her upscale children’s boutique, Skimbaco. The Ladybug shoes were a part of that basket, and the rest is history.

After that small mention and huge public response, Katja started her own PR consulting business called Ladybug Landings, around the ladybug concept, and how “luck lands briefly, be ready”. With this business, she’s returning to her roots in PR, which began straight out of high school.

I love hearing stories about mom’s getting lucky, receiving random blessings, and making something great out of them. I’m excited to support those occasions whenever possible, because I believe that when we work together, all the boats will rise together.

You can get these ladybug shoes on sale right now for $29, and there are other items for sale at Skimbaco.com as well, including some of the kids’ designer clothes which are up to 75% off.

Guess what? You can win your own pair of those famous Ladybug shoes right here! Just leave a comment on this post telling me about a time that “luck landed briefly” on you and you acted on it. You can get an extra entry if you tweet the contest, and an yet another extra entry if you blog about it (potential for three entries total). Read these directions carefully so that your entries count. Contest ends next Thursday, December 18th at 11:59pm. Good luck!

I actually got lucky when I got pregnant with my daughter Katy! My step-sister Jen (mommyinstincts) called me on August 1, 2006 to announce that she was pregnant with her first child. I was rather bummed because I had suffered a miscarriage the December before (would have been my second child). I went home and told my husband Jen's great news. Later that day I started getting signs that I was ovulating for the first time since my miscarriage. I told my husband and he suggested we "give it a try" and maybe we'd get lucky. That day also happened to be the 10 year anniversary of our first date, so we decided to celebrate. Two weeks later we found out that we were indeed expecting again. After trying for a year to get pregnant with our son (with the help of fertility meds), we managed to concieve our daughter on just one try! Today our little Katy (KatyBug, or bugger as my husband and I like to call her) is a happy, healthy 19 month old!

I think I was was not only lucky, but extremely blessed to meet my now husband one night after church. We were both single parents, and had an instant connection. Four years later, we are happily married and having another baby!

I feel that I was lucky just this morning, when I was taking my children to school, and a deer ran out and hit our suv. It did some minor damage to the vehicle, but none of us are injured. It sure makes me feel blessed to still be here right now! (sorry this might be the right kind of "lucky" story!) Thanks for the opportunity to share.

I was incredibly lucky once when I was in college and I didn't have any money to pay my rent for the next month. I told my friends I was going to enter a contest that month that paid your rent with the local radio station. They all thought I was insane but luck was on my side and on the first day of the month my name was called! Yippie! My rent was paid and I could study without stress the next month.

What sweet little shoes!
I recently had to pull over on the side of the HWY because my baby daughter wouldn't stop screaming. As i got out to check on her i heard this awful screaming cat noise coming from an abandoned shed next to the highway. Next to the shed i found 2 tiny starving kittens that had obviously been dumped on the side of the road. We took them home, fattened them up, and found them homes. I felt very lucky that my baby girl had caused me to pull over that day, i don't think the kittens would have survived another day outside in the cold without food or water. Now they are safe and warm in loving homes.

I feel like a really lucky person, always cheating death and beating the odds. In college, I wanted to go to a summer art program in Italy. I don't come from money, but I put down my $500 deposit (taken from my savings), and prayed the money would come along. It didn't . I lost my deposit, and was deeply depressed, but shortly after I began seriously dating a guy who happened to have a lot of frequent flyer miles and a friend with a summer home in Italy. We went all over Europe, and I had the experienceof a lifetime.

Once I was driving in my car and immediately after I drove under and overpass a giant piece of concrete came crashing down. I would probably be dead if i was not speeding ;) Thanks!

designher momma December 13, 2008 at 1:00 am

well….I applied once for my "dream job" which I was completely under qualified for. I ended up getting an interview with the design firm, and filling a position that was not even advertised (which was much better suited for me and my qualifications).

This particular job has been a springboard for my career and I would not be the same person had I not applied for the job which I was grossly under qualified for.

Luck landed briefly on me….

Don't have a girl but I had to comment and say what adorable shoes those are. I wish I could cram my feet into them ;)

LeAnna C December 13, 2008 at 2:32 am

Love those shoes! My daughter would love these!

Stacie December 13, 2008 at 2:53 am

We got lucky when we bought our house in Edmonton in early 2003 and then the prices skyrocketed and we made a tonne of money when we sold in 2006!

zmama December 13, 2008 at 4:12 am

I feel lucky that my daughter is feeling a little better this morning after a night of terrible fever and vomiting. God bless!

I got lucky when I had my son. He was 5 weeks early and weighed 6lbs 8oz. He knew he had to come…there were 2 knots in the umbilical cord. I am a very lucky mama. BTW…he is now a healthy 7yr old boy.

Emily Albrecht December 13, 2008 at 5:13 am

I don't consider myself very lucky in the sense of winning, but it sure isn't for lack of trying. As far as having loving husband and 2 awesome children, for that I consider myself extremely lucky, but not just briefly.

rebecca December 13, 2008 at 5:55 am

I am feeling lucky this month as
1. I got donated free injectable meds for my infertility cycle (maybe $1,700) – I still poid ($3,000) though but……………………
2. The doc thinks this is my best ever month for a chance of pregnancy!!!!! I will find out on Christmas day and I can just feel that I am .

Kathryn December 13, 2008 at 6:05 am

I feel that I am lucky that my daughter and I are very healthy and we are not struggling with medical bills or insurance.

erin December 13, 2008 at 6:13 am

I was finishing up my English and Writing degree, interning at a weekly paper, working full-time, and raising my oldest son. Unfortunately my lucky break came at the expense of someone else's worst nightmare. The paper's editor (who had become a friend) had a family tragedy and just wanted to move back home and be with her family. Because I was there they asked me if I'd like it, after talking with the past editor-to verify she was sure she wanted to give it up-I jumped on it. So, a month before I graduated I was in a position some people work years to get to, I felt amazingly lucky!

Becky December 13, 2008 at 6:46 am

We have been lucky four times–each ended with us adopting beautiful children. We're lucky to have known four beautiful birthmothers who saw beyond the color of our skin. We're lucky to live in a city where our children aren't treated oddly because they are African-American while we are not. We're lucky to have a child who is well cared for waiting for us to come and get him from Ethiopia.

Amanda December 13, 2008 at 7:12 am

I got really lucky finally when we got pregnant with our son after almost 3 yrs. of trying…but it only lasted a brief 8 months and our luck ran out. But we have had real lasting luck twice since then with our daughter and other son and they are lucky to have a little angel watching over them.

Jenna December 13, 2008 at 8:12 am

Hi! I got lucky recently when I was headed out to a garage sale to find new toys for my daughter, then got lost– and because of that, found a house where someone had left big, beautiful Little Tikes items out on the curb for the taking. Got to keep my money and bring some some beautiful treasures for my little lady. :)

Jody John December 13, 2008 at 9:48 am

Wow – what great stories…I don't have a story of luck hittling me more just that my life is filled with so many blessings. To have a wonderful husband, two handsome boys, a beautiful little girl and an angel awaiting me in heaven – all are happy and healthy, I have wonderful family and friends close by and enough money to pay the bills. Life is great – who could ask for anything more!

jessica December 13, 2008 at 9:58 am

well, since I don't believe in "luck" I guess I will have to say I was blessed indeed in the chance meeting of my husband as now we are happily married with a 1 year old and #2 on the way!

xenia December 13, 2008 at 11:09 am

I think I was lucky that my older brother chose the college he did because when it was my time to decide where to go I simply followed him (I didn't have a lot of direction at the time) and from that I met my future husband, we had a wonderful daughter (she's now 2), and are due to have a second child any day now. It always makes me think about how every little choice in life can determine so much of the future!

Alex December 13, 2008 at 11:50 am

Luck, I have been blessed. But I was, and to this day continue to be lucky in love. I met the man of my dreams in an emergency waiting room. We met briefly but the next week I was eating dinner and he was the server. From that point on we have been the best of friends.

tracey December 13, 2008 at 12:57 pm

Luck landed briefly on me the day I decided to interview for that dumb telemarketing job… My future husband was my interviewer…

We were extremely fortunate to have gotten into the house we're living in right now. We placed an offer on a foreclosure in July right before heading to San Francisco for BlogHer. We didn't hear from the bank for almost 2 months and there were so many times I wanted to pull the offer and look elsewhere. But my husband was patient and helped me endure through the process. When they finally accepted our offer, we were not going to qualify for the loan because I had not been in my job for a full year. The gal we were working with at the bank pulled every string she could and finally worked and reworked the numbers so that we could get the loan. If we would have waited until later in the year to put an offer on the house we would not have qualified for the loan because of our current economic crisis (the recession).

I was lucky when I was looking for a new puppy. I wanted one with a block shaped head. I found a phone number in the paper, called it, but they wanted to sell right away and i wanted to wait a couple of months. The next week I drove past a home with a sign in front advertising puppies. I stopped and it was the same people that I had called! I fell in love with a puppy and still have her today.

Jennifer maloney December 14, 2008 at 7:14 am

My 2 year old loves ladybugs. She was one for Halloween. These are adorable.

Luck landed on me when I was introduced to my now boyfriend last summer. I was hot and sweaty, having just returned from coaching a girl's soccer game. So I didn't look my best, but all it took was a little time and I managed to get him! I am so lucky that a neighbour introduced us that day. I have been even luckier ever since he has been in my life. Nice contest & comments from everyone. Good luck to all!

Gillian December 14, 2008 at 11:58 am

I don't believe in luck, I believe in God and His plan for my life…that being said…a friend at church told me about a job opening in his department and knowing there was a layoff coming that week I applied for the position and the next day was layed off but then was hired for the new position the following day. I had also found out I was pregnant the day before the layoff…. Divine Intervention!

Those shoes are too cute!

I was lucky when I went in to interview with my county in October to substitute teach. Another teacher had left her position unexpectedly, and I was offered a full time teaching position instead. Eight years later I still love being a teacher.

erica s December 15, 2008 at 1:53 am

luck was on my side when i met my husband. i had been at a job that was supposed to be temporary for nearly 3 years and decided to stay on for just one more session…when he arrived! if i'd moved along like everyone else we never would have crossed paths!

Heather Weber December 15, 2008 at 2:57 am

I wanted to go on a women's retreat with my church, but money was tight and tickets were $349. A few days before the deadline, an envelope came in the mail from the US government. It was a letter saying that I hadn't cashed a tax refund check from THREE YEARS earlier and included a reissued check for…you guessed it…$349! Good luck landed on me from above!!

Black Friday this year…wow. I didn't get up for the 4AM sales, instead woke up at 5:00AM and got ready for the day…no rush. My first stop was at a local department store. There was a parking spot right in front! That never happens, and I really don't mind the walk…but I took advantage of it. Then, the store wasn't even that busy. No crowds, no lines! Talk about luck. Then I walked through the parking lot to get to another store and found no lines, no rushing…it was incredible! My SIL and I met up at 6 and drove two and a half hours to a bigger town to get some shopping on. We had a wonderful day…and I finished the majority of my shopping. Call it Karma…but I call it a Lucky day!

I feel that we recently had a brush with disaster, but were very lucky that nothing happened. I found our grill on one day and realized it had been left on since the last time we used it….8 days before. Our grill is tapped into the gas line of the house and something BAD could have happened. I am so thankful that nothing bad happened. Now we are super vigilant on being safe and double checking things!

I feel very blessed and luck to have met my husband – I was to go to a wedding reception where he would be, but it was out in the country in the middle of nowhere and I had a hard time finding it. I almost gave up but somehow I found the place and we have been together ever since. So I guess luck didn't just land on me briefly, it stayed with me. I credit my husband with helping me to become a better person.

Jill December 16, 2008 at 9:28 am

Hi there! Found your site from the Bliss Dom 09 website. Anyway – I like your blog and I love a contest even more! :o )
I am very lucky to have the friends that I have. My best friend has been my friend for the past 7 years, but we both feel like we've been life long friends, and it was by luck – that she became my friend. She actually moved with her boyfriend when he took a job here. She took a "random" job at the place that I would end up working a year later and we have been friends ever since. How lucky am I? I just don't know what I'd do without her!

Jill December 16, 2008 at 9:31 am

I almost forgot! I twittered this AND I'll blog tonight about it!!
3 chances – maybe I'll get lucky!!

Heidi December 16, 2008 at 10:13 am

Sometimes it is the tiny moments of luck that just make a day brighter. I woke one morning to discover that we were out of coffee. CRISIS!
Moments later, there was a knock at the door – it was the postman with a package – 2 cans of premium coffee to evaluate for a company! The timing was perfect.
Fast forward 2 weeks and that coffee had almost run out and I would have to go to the grocery (I really need to keep track of my caffeine consumption). Later that afternoon, another knock – 2 more cans of coffee to thank me for evaluating their product!
Not huge luck, but just enough.

I was lucky when I decided NOT to invest my savings in the stock market – particularly the companies that invested with the $50B thief. Almost lost it all, not that there was much, but still.

I felt lucky when I was driving on the freeway behind a semi . A large piece of metal fell off the truck and I guess just by luck missed my car!

Marissa K December 18, 2008 at 5:52 am

I was lucky when I had my daughter. I was consider a risk with my heart condition. She came out perfectly fine weighing my lucky numbers 615 she was 6lbs 15ozs the reason it is my lucky number is because it is my birthday. What a crazy odd feeling when I looked at the scale.

I feel lucky right now. I wasn't going to enter the contest to win these adorable shoes and actually closed the site. But just now, I glanced up and there is a ladybug crawling on the wall just above my computer screen. I decided to come back and enter. Who knows, maybe that ladybug was telling me something.
