Patrick Dempsey: Unscripted

by Arianne on December 10, 2008

**This Giveaway Is Over, Thanks To All Who Entered!

It’s not every day you get to talk to a celebrity like Patrick Dempsey.  Anyone my age has probably worshiped thought he was alright since his Can’t Buy Me Love days, and the truth is we’d call in to listen to him read us the phone book.  He’s THAT perfect ok.

So when I found out I was invited to a special call to discuss Patrick Dempsey’s new Avon fragrance, “Unscripted“, I couldn’t wait.  The cologne is honestly so lovely…I received a box with not only the cologne itself (with awesome slick and simple packaging, by the way), but separate bottles with each “note” of the fragrance for me to sample.  I was able to take my time with the cologne before the call, and found the best part to be that it didn’t give me a headache the second I smelled it, unlike most fragrances I come across.

During the call with Patrick and the Avon people, we went through each note and they described to us the ingredients and Patrick shared why each one was important to him.  The scents are very textured and layered, I love them all (Steph kept track of these):

Top Note:

  • pepper
  • lavender
  • water anis accord
  • cardamom

Heart or Mid note:

  • violet leaves
  • lavender
  • sensual fig accord- this became some of the key note as well as Patrick’s favorite, lavender

Bottom Note (textural woods of the fragrance):

  • musk
  • vetiver
  • patchouli

It was really interesting smelling each note individually, then all together.  I loved hearing about Patrick’s process, his inspiration, and his purpose.  He told us about his childhood memories growing up in Maine, and even admitted his mom is not quite yet a fan of his new cologne.  He got connected with Avon through his wife Jillian Dempsey, who has a fabulous makeup line that I can’t wait to try out.  This isn’t the Avon from the 80’s, they’ve got a whole new image and product line that is impressing even this hard-sell mama.  Patrick spoke highly of their creative process, and how hard they have worked on this project.

Even more exciting was Patrick’s own shout out to bloggers before we even talked about Unscripted.  He said that he knows we bloggers have a strong voice, and can influence people in a profound way.  It definitely won some brownie points with the mombloggers on the call (as if he needed any…).

So as we wrapped up and he wished me specifically us all happy and safe holidays, we moms left the call a little dazzled.  We had tweeted the whole call, and quickly found out that Patrick had read them, and took turns laughing and dying of embarrassment.  We were all Drunk On Dempsey, and there was no cure.  There was only the crash after the high.  But it was all worth it.

So even though you all couldn’t be there with me, I’m really excited to give one of you the very yummy Unscripted cologne!  This giveaway goes until next Mon, Dec 15th, and all you need to do is leave a comment here telling me which scent above you are most excited about. Go on, I know you want to say patchouli. You can get an extra entry by tweeting this contest, leave an additional comment with your link!

Since I'm a vetiver farmer, it has to be Vetiver! I've been awaiting the release of this fragrance since I heard of it several months back. Bravo Avon!

jen brister December 10, 2008 at 10:18 am

Good Lord, I'd buy anything that man put out. I like lavender. The patchouli reminds me of my shrink.

Oh! I just discovered that the scent I have been wearing for years isn’t made anymore. :-( I am looking for a new one- I prefer a light musk, with hints of pepper and lavender. I wish I could get a sample to smell. Do you know where I could without just buying it?

I just watched Can’t Buy Me Love the other day. It made me feel old because I realized how long ago it was that I watched that movie as a swoony preteen.

Okay, this is the first time I’ve ever REALLY wanted a fragrance for husband (or even for myself). I’m not a perfume person… it generally annoys me… but I’m actually going to get my husband this… maybe for Christmas.

Reading about you all on that call is so much fun… I can just imagine it!

That’s funny… I just noticed on my last comment that it included our blog’s last post… which was written by JANICE… about being on that phone call. I guess that looks confusing.

So for anyone reading this…. Yes, Janice was on the call and wrote about it at our blog.

CAN’T BUY ME LOVE = one of my all-time favorite movies ever. He was in another mobster-esque movie with Christian Slater back in the day, before he was McDreamy. I think it was just called “Mobsters.” Hilarious.

Am I the only person in the whole wide world who can’t stand the smell of patchouli by itself?? It makes me think of dirt for some reason! The pepper and cardamom notes sound lovely.

Sandy December 11, 2008 at 2:57 am

loved can't buy me love…wow he is the natural kinda sexy and you can tell he is the real deal not just a show—he is gonna deliver this himself- correct—You ladies are so lucky- and bet his voice was sultry and sexy yet real..the kind that makes your knees go weak. Heck I could put it on my hubs and dream huh>

Amy F. December 11, 2008 at 5:00 am

I don't think I know what half those scents smell like, but the lavender sounds nice.

Anne December 11, 2008 at 5:20 am

Cardamom pods to me, are heavenly so I latched on to the cardamom right away! The pepper also seems very interesting!

Thanks, my hubby would love this!

Janice (5Minutesfor December 11, 2008 at 6:08 am

My sample finally arrived today. It is great!

I will be replacing my hub's current scent with it. (But I don't know – Susan might want to fight me for it. Sounds like she wants it for her hubby!)

Sure was a blast being on the call!

Carrington December 11, 2008 at 6:35 am

Betsy December 11, 2008 at 7:14 am

Lavender/Violet leaves!

Lindley December 12, 2008 at 2:26 am

I am going to have to go with Lavendar- thoise are my favorite bushes and purple is my favorite color. This sounds fantastic-thanks!

Apple December 12, 2008 at 2:41 am

Definitely some sensual fig accord! applez_55@yahoo.com

Melanie December 12, 2008 at 2:50 am

I know the scent probably won't stand out too much with all those others mixed in there, but I'm all twitterpated about CARDAMOM. I seriously sniff my spice jar, I love cardamom so much. (is that weirder than picking patchouli? hahaha)

Kim@Galavanting December 12, 2008 at 3:12 am

My only complaint about this post is that the photo of Patrick Dempsey should've been HUGE :) . So love him, of course. I always get a headache too, so the prospect of not getting one is very enticing. I love musky smells, so am excited to see what this one is like since my guy hasn't ever found a favorite…

Kellyn December 12, 2008 at 4:28 am

You are such a lucky girl! I am very jealous! The tweets were great during the talk, I laughed a ton.

Definitly the Lavendar!!

Thanks

Carolyn S December 12, 2008 at 7:07 am

You are correct! I do want to say Patchouli, but the mix of all these scents has to be fantastic!

thanks for sharing

I Love Lavender. What an experience for you to be able to talk to this beautiful man. I would love to win a bottle. If you don't get a headache, that's a plus cause there are so many fragrances out there that I can't smell due to getting a headache.
