Love This Planet

by Arianne on July 29, 2008

It’s that time of year again, when the Bloggy Giveaways are flying fast and furious.  I can’t resist taking part and joining in the fun.  And with the launch of my baby, 5 Minutes for Going Green, I figured how better to celebrate than to giveaway some of my favorite reusable bags?

Get Hip Get Green has some of my favorite reusables, because their sleek and boxy design means they are light weight and hold a ton.  They have a few different designs, and I’m giving away a set of FIVE in the design of your choice.  Cool, eh?

All you have to do is leave a comment here telling me which post from 5 Minutes for Going Green was your favorite in the last week.  You can earn an extra entry by twittering or posting about this giveaway, just leave an additional comment with a link to your tweet/post (also send me a tweet at @ToThink to let me know you did!). The deadline is midnight on Friday August 1st.  Winner will be picked at random.  Good luck!  And be sure to check out the plethora of other giveaways going on this week!

I Jam, Therefore I Am was definitely the post that spoke to me. I read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and was so inspired. However, I don’t the first thing about canning and neither do my friends. Who wants to come help me?! So far we are chowing down on the CSA goodies we get and we just signed up for the winter program too.

I liked “Ready, Set, Go: Your Green Getting Started Guide” although I read the one about bug control with high-hopes, but was slightly disappointed.

I have a horrible mosquito problem, but dunks can’t really help. I don’t have any standing water (although my neighbors might). I think I’m going to get a bat box.

I realy enjoyed reading “Ready, Set, Go: Your Green Getting Started Guide.” I am a big fan of doing whatever I can to make my contribution to a healthier Earth. I can’t wait to show this post to my husband because he sees where I am coming from, but he gets a bit overwhelmed because he does not know where to start and how to feel like what he is doing matters. Thanks for the great read!

I like the Playstation article. That whole situation has lots of people talking about it when they may not be the types to consider themselves environmentalists. At the same time, environmentalists who aren’t gamers may not even have been aware of the situation. So I’m thrilled to see that article and I like the way it was presented.

For me, it was your most recent post, The Green Gifting Dilemma. This is something that has been on my mind, as both of my children had their birthday’s in June. We try really hard to get them toys that are green, but it is hard when other’s are buying for them.
I would normally say I’d regift them, but I really don’t want any child having them…so, you’re right, it is quite the dilemma. Ugh. I guess I can just ask for lots of books and build their book supply :)

I would LOVE to know how to keep some of this for later and immediately went to my library’s website to hold our copy of the book (alas, I can’t find my library card…but that’s alright).

My favorite is I Jam Therefore I Am. Food preservation is important to me – I was hoping to make jam but exciting things happening in our family are making that unlikely. :) I am freezing fruits – worked on peaches today. I also will preserve tomatoes – maybe freezing also. I make and can applesauce and apple butter in the fall with my mom.

How does your squash and zucchini do with freezing? Do you use it in soups? I’m adding your new blog to my favorites!

I read your post about gifts. Here’s my suggestion. Can you say “if you stuck on gift ideas, my daughter would love___” and then name a few ideas.

Or…what about a bit more sublte and say “my daughter is hoping some of her gifts come from ___” and then name the store?

Now…how to wrap those gifts so as not to waste paper :)

I enjoyed your post about green gifts. I am a fairly green person, try to buy as many green products as I can, but … I have to admit, when it comes to giving gifts, I’m not very good at it. I just don’t plan well enough for gift-giving, and end up running out to Target or whatever at the last minute. The last birthday party we attended, we were frantically wrapping the gift in the parking lot of the event *shame*

Thank you for the wonderful giveaway though, I promise I will try to do better!

Definitely The Green Gifting Dilemma, as we are having that issue ourselves with 5 soon to be 6. We have parents who want to get the kids a lot of ‘little things’ that the kids like for all of 5 seconds and that break easy, end up left everywhere, broken, etc., similar to fast food toys (ick). I’d rather they buy them something that will last a lot longer. I’ve said it many a time but still have yet to get through. *sigh*

If they don’t make sense to the way I think and do things, I won’t keep up with it. I actually found a couple of ideas in that article that I’m going to put into action and see what happens.
