    I…um…*embarrassed*
I switched to “alternative” menstrual products about 3 months ago. And I love them! But it’s not exactly the most “yell-this-off-of-a-mountaintop” topic, ya know?

I have not been very green but I did just purchase some of these sacks! I’m giving a few to my motherinlaw for mother’s day - so I only kept a couple. Would absolutely LOVE more so I can not use any plastic sacks at all!

  3. Carmen on April 21st, 2008 9:28 am

We fanatically recycle, compost and try to walk or bike places as much as we can. If we do drive, we turn off the car at long stoplights. We only turn on lights in the room we’re currently in. We grow a lot of our own food, using collected rainwater to water the garden and indoor plants. We try to do little things that will make a difference.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  4. Carmen on April 21st, 2008 9:29 am

  5. Shalee on April 21st, 2008 9:41 am

    I did a whole post on our green-ness. http://shalees.blogspot.com/2008/04/green-around-gills.html

We’re doing our part around here!

  6. jen on April 21st, 2008 9:49 am

We have been trying to embrace our green-ness in the Loving family. Hopefully we’ll continue to do more and more! We’ve stopped buying plastic toys and moved into natural organic materials for our playthings. We also reconstruct our clothes into cool things to reduce the amount of excess materials we consume/throw away. We only used reusable bags for shopping now and have just started a compost in our yard. Being green is totally contagious and we’ve found that kids love it!

  7. Adventures In Babywearing on April 21st, 2008 9:54 am

I should like to win this most fabulous prize! Our latest green change is getting serious about using my fun and funky cloth napkins again instead of paper towels!

    Steph

  8. M.A. on April 21st, 2008 9:57 am

Not using water bottles anymore!! A big step!!

  9. Playful Professional on April 21st, 2008 10:11 am

I’ve started reusing my cracker and cereal boxes for shipping things and storing things rather than throwing them away!!

  10. Melissa on April 21st, 2008 10:15 am

We joined a CSA last year, which was our first step on this journey. Switched over to reusable bags–I love your giveaway, I’d love to have more!

My next step is to make some cotton produce bags so that I stop depending so much on the store plastic bags.

  11. oh amanda on April 21st, 2008 10:20 am

I only use natural products on my body.
And I’m stocking up on cloth bags so I can stop using so many plastic ones!

  12. Rach on April 21st, 2008 10:21 am

I have started small, and don’t buy individual packaged snacks for the kids… much less waste.

  13. Ursula on April 21st, 2008 10:45 am

I am a die-hard Freecycler! Get it, Give it, everything!

  14. Liz on April 21st, 2008 10:53 am

I changed over all my lightbulbs. I knew I had to do it when my 20 yr old sister offered to buy me the lightbulbs for Christmas. I’ve also taken to unplugging the toaster and microwave when I’m not using them. Which works well most of the time except for when you forget to plug them in and set something to defrost…

  15. Shauna on April 21st, 2008 10:56 am

These bags are so much nicer looking than most that I’ve seen! I’m trying to buy more locally grown produce and might buy a CSA share.

  16. Keara on April 21st, 2008 10:59 am

Those look so nice! We recycle, turn lights off, have energy star appliances and fans and I am about to cloth diaper my youngest!

  17. 4 Little men on April 21st, 2008 11:42 am

Oh those are too cool! I’ve been bringing my ‘paper’ bags back into the store to use again… so these would be PERFECT. :)
    Brittany

  18. Christina W. on April 21st, 2008 12:03 pm

As a mom of two little ones, I’ve been “green”ing all over the place! (Mostly by only being able to shower two or three times a week, and never for longer than 6 minutes!)

  19. Nicole on April 21st, 2008 12:05 pm

I am trying not to buy much and doing my best to make the things I do buy last as long as possible. I have gone as far as sewing up holes in my shoes - which got me a couple of comments about “taking the broke student thing way too far,” but I actually could afford new ones. I just don’t like throwing things away.

P.S. Hilary, you’re not the only one.

  20. Heather A on April 21st, 2008 12:05 pm

No more plastic bags!!!! :) I actually took the last of my stockpile from shopping today and dropped them off to be recycled! Now I need some bags! And these are much cuter than the local ones!

  21. Kimberly on April 21st, 2008 12:07 pm

I re-use all boxes I can for shipping things out. We reuse any plastic bags we might aquire and/or return them to the store for them to re-use. Walk instead of using the car whenever possible. Recyle. When I am done with a book or a magazine I pass it along to someone else so they don’t need to purchase another copy which would waste me trees and fill up our landfills. We no longer use bottled water. I try and buy “green” products. We replaced our light bulbs to be energy efficient ones. We turn off electricity as often as we can. We keep the thermostat down low. And a bunch of other things.

  22. jen smith on April 21st, 2008 12:12 pm

we are thinking of puttinig in solar panels. those sacks are great.

  23. Susanne on April 21st, 2008 12:26 pm

I love these! We’ve stopped putting our recyclable cans, bottles, etc. in plastic bags…we go straight to the recycle bin with them.

  24. Stacy on April 21st, 2008 12:33 pm

We have joined a CSA this year. When my little guy is bigger I want to take him to the farm so he sees where his food comes from.

  25. Awesome Mom on April 21st, 2008 12:43 pm

We are moving next month and will have a real back yard for the first time. I plan on having a nice garden filled with organically grown vegetables. I am also trying to get a nice collection of reusable bags so that I don’t have to use as many plastic bags.

  26. Greenstylemom on April 21st, 2008 12:49 pm

We have made lots of green changes in our home. As soon as it is a bit warmer, we are going to do some worm composting.

  27. Kara on April 21st, 2008 1:08 pm

I love all your blogs. Cool bags, too, would love to use the shen I go to the store:). Your dad turned me on to your blog and Carringtons and I love to read about Charlie’s progress, just love to read about the family. I hope I win!!!P.S. I work for Joy if you were not sure who I am:)

  28. kristen on April 21st, 2008 1:16 pm

We use thermoses to bring coffee to work. We also only use travel mugs, not paper.

  29. Ashlee - Mama's Nest on April 21st, 2008 1:27 pm

Hey look! Gimme, gimme! I tried switching to recycled toilet paper but my husband isn’t having it. In lieu of that I am thinking of composting our human waste. For real, they have some sweeet poop buckets out there. Ok, on a serious note, I think our biggest change, while not so crafty has been going green to clean. I used to lurve me some toxic chemicals.

  30. Rhi on April 21st, 2008 1:42 pm

I am a fanatic recycler. So, there is that. But, I am also fanatic about taking all the free bath products my suitcase will carry when I travel. And, then, never ever using them. So, I have started using those damn mini toiletries instead of buying giant bottles of shampoo and conditioner. Go ME!

  31. Claire on April 21st, 2008 2:14 pm

I’ve wanted to start using reusable bags like these but haven’t, yet. These would inspire me! We shop thrift shops for clothing instead of buying new.

  32. ChristiS on April 21st, 2008 2:20 pm

This is awesome! My husband just purchased some reusable bags from our grocery store. We have always reused our grocery bags, but this way we don’t have to keep storing them! Thanks for sharing, and please stop by my giveaway too!

  33. Sarah K on April 21st, 2008 2:28 pm

Please add my name to the hat. We have started using reusable grocery bags and have switched all of our lightbulbs.

  34. Amanda on April 21st, 2008 2:34 pm

My husband and I switched to using cloth towels and napkins instead of the paper version. We have noticed a big difference in our trash output and our grocery bill as well.

  35. Mel on April 21st, 2008 2:49 pm

If going green means carrying something so cute then count me in…anything for my environment!

  36. tami lewis on April 21st, 2008 2:49 pm

    i want these so much!!!!!
we have made lots of changes in going green but one that i will mention is that we put up a clothes line instead of using a dryer :)

  37. Lisa- Domestic Accident on April 21st, 2008 2:54 pm

I think it’s so great how many people are doing green giveaways. Those bags are awesome.

  38. Lisa on April 21st, 2008 3:11 pm

It’s great that there are so many green giveaways this time!

The newest thing I have done to be green is buying most or all of my makeup from everydayminerals.com they are a great company and they aren’t far from me so less waste with shipping.

  39. sharla on April 21st, 2008 3:18 pm

Well let’s see..we switched our lightbulbs, I make all the baby food, we recycle all cans and paper waste.

    I would love those bags!

  40. Lissete on April 21st, 2008 3:23 pm

I can so use some re-usable bags! Not only do we recycle EVERYTHING, we also changed out most of our light bulbs. I also am playing around with all the new “green” products out there to find the perfect fit for us.

  41. Jenny B (aka Mother Hen) on April 21st, 2008 3:39 pm

I’ve started crocheting grocery bags. It’ll take quite a few, we have a large family.
Please enter me in your giveaway.

  42. Deanne on April 21st, 2008 3:52 pm

I’ve been thinking about going ‘green’ with grocery bags. These would be the perfect way to, um, segway into them!

  43. naturalpaths on April 21st, 2008 4:05 pm

I have been trying to really step up our recycling/reuse efforts lately. My dh is so bad about throwing things in the trash that can go in the recycling bins - I dig the stuff out of the trash and put it in the bins!

  44. Alana on April 21st, 2008 4:17 pm

I am wiping my bottom with recycled toilet paper and gave up paper towels and napkins.

  45. Mama Zen on April 21st, 2008 4:21 pm

    Growing my own vegetables!

  46. Stephanie on April 21st, 2008 4:28 pm

I started to read labels on cleaners and was completely freaked out by the toilet bowl cleaner cautions….So I bought the powder kind of toilet bowl cleaner - but then the powder started frolicking in the air and coming at me like a vapor cloud - so I got scared. I am trying to go green and have recently bought Clorox Green cleaners. I am too cheap to throw the others out - so I am still trying to use them up.

  47. Broad Horizons on April 21st, 2008 5:00 pm

Among other things we use cloth napkins, rags instead of paper towels, and wipes instead of TP (for the kids and me).

  48. Lesha on April 21st, 2008 5:07 pm

I plan on chucking most of my hair care, cosmetics and skin care that is’nt
organic. I did’nt realize that most of these commercial beauty products that
women use everyday are full of toxins and bad chemicals that should’nt come
in contact with human skin let alone animals.

  49. Queen B on April 21st, 2008 6:02 pm

These are great! We have a car wash business and are in the process of putting in a water reclamation system to cut down our water consumption by 80%. And at home we recycle everything possible!

  50. Kristin on April 21st, 2008 6:23 pm

I ahve been trying to get my hands on some reuable bags for quite some time. I would love these! Perfect for groceries, our family tries not to take those plastic bags we often carry items out of the store by themselves. Everyone looks at us like we are crazy but nope we don’t want those plastic nightmares!

  51. Mo on April 21st, 2008 6:25 pm

We use cloth dish towels & cloth rags, and are avid recyclers. The bags are neat looking and would come in very handy. I’d love to win! Thank you for the chance =)

  52. Samantha D on April 21st, 2008 6:48 pm

    We have started composting!
    zoetrope2000 at gmail dot com

  53. Meredith on April 21st, 2008 6:58 pm

What a wonderful giveaway. I’ve been loving these bags for awhile but haven’t brought myself to buy them!

My husband and I do a lot of “green” things, but the easiest change we’ve made is to stop using plastic bags at the grocery store. Using the reusable bags would be even better! Oh yeah, and we changed all our light bulbs. And we take SUPER short showers. And we buy earth-friendly dog food. And… well, you get the idea. :)

  54. mom2fur on April 21st, 2008 7:03 pm

I’ve started making and using cloth napkins, but I have a more ulterior motive than being ‘green’–cloth is just so much nicer! Thanks for doing this giveaway. My e-mail is Lufmikidz at aol dot com.

  55. Josie on April 21st, 2008 7:08 pm

We’re switching our lights to CFL bulbs and we use reusable drinking bottles.

  56. Piseco on April 21st, 2008 7:23 pm

Love, love, love these! We switched to CFL bulbs, cloth bags at the store, cloth diapers and are switching to safer cleaning products…

  57. Mindy Said on April 21st, 2008 7:24 pm

Thank you for the chance to win. I’m with commenter number 1. I just don’t like to shout it out to the world, but it is so much better. :)
    mindysaid (at) gmail (dot) com

  58. Jill on April 21st, 2008 7:25 pm

We have switched to CFL bulbs and started (finally) using reusable shopping bags. And we are getting the kids (ages 4, 2, and 2) involved in recycling!

  59. pamela on April 21st, 2008 7:32 pm

I love envirosax, I saw them at SF Moma. We are hoping to build a compost..in addition to small changes like wax bags in lunches.

  60. NicoleZD on April 21st, 2008 7:56 pm

No more paper products in the kitchen! Cloth napkins and wipes, instead :-)
    fiordpiner [at] yahoo [dot] com

  61. Trish on April 21st, 2008 8:01 pm

Thanks for having a giveaway. Please count me in. I recently purchased reusable bags my local grocery store - and I am trying to remember to use those bags whenever I got shopping, not just grocery shopping.

  62. Laura@HeavenlyHomemakers on April 21st, 2008 8:01 pm

Oh I wanna win the bags, wouldn’t you?
Oh I wanna win the bags, wouldn’t you?
‘Cause I’m a mom to lots of dudes
And we go through lots of food
So I wanna win the bags, win the bags!

(Um, do you like my song? We are pretty green at our house…but I couldn’t figure out how to put that into the song too. I could make up another song if you’d like…)

  63. AF on April 21st, 2008 8:17 pm

We are using CFL bulbs, recycling and considering starting a compost pile. I’d love to win the bags to help with grocery shopping!

  64. Jennifer on April 21st, 2008 8:24 pm

When we shower in my household we only turn the water on to get ourselves wet and to rinse. The entire time it’s off to help conserve our water resources.

What a change in the water bill too! It’s only a bit, but every bit helps not only us but the environment!

  65. Anne on April 21st, 2008 8:28 pm

We stopped buying paper towels. We don’t necessarily use anything instead, but if you don’t have paper towels on hand, you make do! :)

  66. ali on April 21st, 2008 8:29 pm

we just bought a prius. gotta love 54mpg on my trip to work!

  67. ambre on April 21st, 2008 8:29 pm

I am trying to slowly change our family into a green one… even if it’s just a light green! It may seem small, but after two years of marriage, we’re finally getting around to putting our recycling bin out with the trash!
As a side note, my fifteen-month old decided she too would go green and removed her disposable diaper before peeing on the carpet this morning. Way to save that diaper for one more use kiddo! :)

  68. Ms. Polka Spot on April 21st, 2008 8:46 pm

WOW, those are cool bags! We are trying a lot of things around here at the farm. Cutting out excess trips to the city, and opting for just the town stuff, and fewer trips to town on top of that. Making bags has been on top of my list, although people here still don’t “get it”

  69. Melanie on April 21st, 2008 8:57 pm

What neat bags! I’m getting better at packing my son a green lunch. I’ve been shopping at Henry’s more and more and buying bulk items that I can put into re-usable containers.

  70. abbyjess on April 21st, 2008 9:08 pm

If it’s yellow, let it mellow. If it’s brown, flush it down.

As my area has been having a serious water shortage,we have been conserving water in numerous ways among other “green” changes.

  71. Ginny on April 21st, 2008 9:40 pm

In our family we have switched to flourecent bulbs, recycle everything possible, keep the heat down in the winter, turn off all light possible, and try to purchase locally. These bags are really nice!

  72. Virpi on April 21st, 2008 9:47 pm

I walk if possible. I don’t use dryer anymore. I try to heat the house with wood. I switch of the lights, tv, radio, computer when they are not in use. Recycle all carbages and we buy most of our clothes from second-hand-shops.

  73. seven on April 21st, 2008 10:18 pm

I love those bags! They’re adorable. We recycle as much as we can, and I’m planning on making some grocery bags out of sheets, but those bags are really cute… I’m a sucker for any sort of bag. It’s a curse. :)

  74. Amber (Imperishable Beauty) on April 21st, 2008 10:32 pm

I’d love to have some of these!

I’m not super-green yet, but I’ve been switching to green cleaners, I’ve been making a point to use more washcloths and handtowels in lieu of paper towels. I also make our laundry soap which means that with all that laundry I have to wash, I’m not create tons of waste with empty plastic detergent bottles.

  75. bunny on April 21st, 2008 10:52 pm

This lil bunny goes green by recycling, using reusable shopping cloth bags, switching off all the lights in any room that’s unoccupied, makes sure the faucets are shut tight, uses solar lights in her garden :) Thanks for the chance to win!

  76. A Mama's Blog (Heather) on April 21st, 2008 10:55 pm

I bought some of these (different design) last year to “go green.” I hated all the plastic bags I was getting from the grocery store. We also use cloth diapers, and recycle everything we can. Thanks for the contest. These are AWESOME bags!!

  77. jubilee on April 21st, 2008 11:02 pm

We’ve switched out our light bulbs, are buying green household cleaners, thrift shop for clothes, unplug appliances when not in use, flush less often, take fewer and shorter showers, use reusable bags (even though in these here parts it’s still a novelty and people look at us funny), recycle paper, plastic and metal, donate books and magazines, share subscriptions to magazines with other mothers, and use dryer way less often. Would love to have more reusable bags to give away as gifts and to use myself. Cool giveaway!

  78. Deborah on April 22nd, 2008 1:52 am

The change we are making is using reusable bags more often … it is hard to break the habit!

  81. Dawn on April 22nd, 2008 5:18 am

In the last year I’ve started cloth diapering my kiddos. We use several reusable shopping bags…more would be great, so we wouldn’t have to use any plastic. Just recently I switched to natural eco-friendly laundry soap and softner AND I’ve started washing my regular loads at a lower temp.

This is a great giveaway! and a great idea to give a second prize to the most creative comment. Limits the amount of those pesky 2 word comments you would get. :)

  82. Joanna on April 22nd, 2008 5:34 am

I just moved into a new apartment complex, and they don’t supply recycling bins - I’m taking it upon myself to go get one from the town!

gave up water bottles and trying to remember to take my own bags shopping

  84. Dirkey on April 22nd, 2008 5:41 am

We’re composting, cloth napkining, diva-cup wearing (well not my hubby), gardening, reusable bag using, recycling, line-drying earth fools at my house. :)
Oh and if you’re interested I’m doing an earth day give-away/contest over at my blog check it :)

  85. Patti on April 22nd, 2008 6:03 am

We have a one cup a day rule. It saves a lot of dishwasher space so we are only running it a few times a week!

  86. MamaGoesGreen on April 22nd, 2008 6:03 am

Happy Earth Day! We have made many green changes, including byob and all non-toxic cleaners. We are celebrating Earth Day on my blog with some giveaways, come look!

  87. Bree on April 22nd, 2008 6:06 am

We just started cloth diapering! No more diapers going into landfills! Yay

  88. Allison on April 22nd, 2008 6:08 am

My newest green effort: I sleep more. Seriously! I’m trying to go to bed not long after my son, which means the lights are out more, the computer’s off, and the house is quiet and using less energy. Besides, it’s also just better for my health in the long run!

  89. Jill on April 22nd, 2008 6:09 am

We’ve switched out our lightbulbs, set our thermostat on a timer, considering a compost bin, gardening organically, supporting our local farmer’s market, buying more natural products, and I’m starting to switch over to reusable grocery bags.

I don’t nearly have enough, though, and these would certainly help. Thanks for the chance.

  90. Naomi on April 22nd, 2008 6:16 am

We compost for the garden and are converting all the lightbulbs, slowly but surely…

  91. Ann on April 22nd, 2008 6:17 am

I’ve recently made a commitment to only buying used clothing for a year! Thrift stores/yard sales here I come!!!

    I adore those bags!!!!

  92. Martha W on April 22nd, 2008 6:18 am

I use old cookbooks that I get at Thrift shops to cook the way my grandmother did. She lived thru the Depression & could stretch a penny like no one I know. I don’t think enough people realize how far a lot of the food we buy travels and how much it costs to get to us. I buy local if at all possible.

  93. Amy on April 22nd, 2008 6:25 am

We are turning off lights when we are not using them and have reusable bags for some grocery shopping. My family is talking about joining a CSA this summer for the first time, as well. We’re also doing Green Tip of the Week in our newsletter from our site, to encourage others to be greener! Wow…I was only trying to think of one thing :)

  94. Denise on April 22nd, 2008 6:28 am

We are CSA members, have reusable bags (could always use more, though!), recycle, compost, use compact florescent bulbs, and I have big plans to start biking to day care and work now that the weather is getting nice.

  95. Bonita on April 22nd, 2008 6:30 am

Our biggest green change: We don’t run the furnace at night any more.

  96. Molly B. on April 22nd, 2008 6:41 am

I’m buying a clothes line so that I can hang my son’s diapers to dry instead of using the dryer. It’ll save money along with helping to save the planet!

  97. danielle s on April 22nd, 2008 6:42 am

We use non toxic, “free and clear” type cleaning supplies. Its a win win situation when you have little ones sucking on everything in sight!!!! One less thing to worry about.

My favorite green thing to do is to make my kids march ALL the way back upstairs to turn off lights when they leave them on…nope, I’m a mean mom and I don’t turn them off for them! Also, with 2 teenage girls in the house, we’ve begun setting a timer for the shower to eliminate the 20-minute soaks.

  99. Kimberly B. on April 22nd, 2008 6:50 am

I walk or take the bus everywhere, and I bring my backpack with me to the store instead of getting more shopping bags.

  100. Jule on April 22nd, 2008 6:59 am

I’ve bought a couple of reusable shopping bags and keep one in my purse-now if I could just remember to use them…

  101. Stacey on April 22nd, 2008 7:06 am

We are using CFLs where we can and have programmable thermostat to install. We also don’t use the AC much in the summer and just try to oepn up windows (that isn’t much of a change for us though). We also recycle and take what we can to the reuse center.

  102. Sarah on April 22nd, 2008 7:12 am

I am really trying harder to use reusable shopping bags for everything. It has been a hard transition for some reason — I keep having to run back to the car to get the bags from the trunk.

  103. tupelo on April 22nd, 2008 7:12 am

We’ve recently started composting. It feels good to do something useful with household food scraps. Thanks for the giveaway. Very cool bags!

  104. Betsy on April 22nd, 2008 7:14 am

We switched out all of our old light bulbs for the new LED ones.

  105. jeanne on April 22nd, 2008 7:19 am

Ok- I love these bags- I actaully got a set for Christmas from a friend. They hold so much stuff. I keep them in my car- but I would love another set:)

  106. wendy on April 22nd, 2008 7:36 am

    1. we switched to sig and stainless reusable water bottles for the family.
    2. we reuse all packing materials
    3. packing paper we use for drawing and gift wrap
    4. we are switching to green shower curtains when our current curtains can no longer be used.

    i love these bags!

  107. Nicol on April 22nd, 2008 7:41 am

Oh! I so want these!!! I have been looking at some reuable bags and haven’t purchased any yet.

In my home, we are “greening our clean.” I have switched all of my cleaning supplies to green, non toxic. It has been a long process, but I am happy with it!

  108. Kathleen W. on April 22nd, 2008 7:41 am

First off, it’s great to see how so many people are working to help the environment! I try to do what I can by recycling, using cloth bags instead of plastic, cloth diapering, and using eco-friendly cleaning products.

  109. Nicole G on April 22nd, 2008 7:45 am

I have been wanting to try these sacks. My family and I have been trying to make positive changes - the most significant of which is getting a hybrid and carpooling to work and school. We hope to make more changes in the home in the coming months - and these would help.
    -Nicole

  110. Jen on April 22nd, 2008 8:00 am

We are composting - to grow our own veggies. I would like to make the switch to reusable bags as well!

  111. Tricia on April 22nd, 2008 8:12 am

We were fortunate enough to be able to remodel our house this year. So, we decided that if we’re going to do it once, we’d better do it right. So we got the project certified a green remodeling project through our state by recycling 70% of the outgoing materials, using local and sustainable projects, using low-waste construction techniques, and — whew — a lot more.
It was extra work and a little extra expense, but it was worth it.

  112. Caroline on April 22nd, 2008 8:15 am

I live less than a mile from my workplace, so often my “commute” is a nice walk! :)

  113. Judy on April 22nd, 2008 8:17 am

We’re collecting rain water in a huge barrel for the gardens….now all we need is rain. I should break out that rain stick and give it a shake!

  114. Becca on April 22nd, 2008 8:17 am

Just this week I bought a bunch of Shaklee cleaning products. They are all biodegradable and don’t have all the scary toxic chemicals in them, so they should be better for my family’s health and for the earth!

  115. Leanna on April 22nd, 2008 8:18 am

Whenever a bulb burns out (and our 3 year old does not let us leave it that way for long) we try to replace it with what my son calls the new, curly bulbs.

  116. Susannah on April 22nd, 2008 8:20 am

Headed here from adventuresinbabywearing. I have begun using a refillable water bottle as opposed to my 8 bottles of water a day!

  117. Melissa on April 22nd, 2008 8:21 am

Oh these are so great… I’ve been looking for a great (i.e. not ugly!) reusable bag for grocery shopping. As for my green habits… my husband and I started recycling as much as possible. Our recycle bin (which is bigger than our trash bin) has to be put out weekly for pick up while our trash would only be put out once a month if it weren’t for smells! I’ve also stopped using plastic cups at work for water. A coffee mug works great and is easy to clean so I’m not adding to the landfill!

  118. Danielle on April 22nd, 2008 8:37 am

this spring we decided to stop using artificial fertalizers. Our graa wont be as green but the water will be a tine bit cleaner.
    mcginnisfamily5(at)gmail(dot)com

  119. Emily on April 22nd, 2008 8:43 am

These are the coolest grocery totes I’ve ever seen! My best green habit is my reusable water bottle. Haven’t used a disposable bottle in ages. Also slowly making the change to green cleaners. And using lots of vinegar and baking soda!

  120. lindsey on April 22nd, 2008 8:44 am

I have been walking to work whenever possible, joined a CSA, use reusable shopping bags everywhere, compost food scraps, and I’m in the process of obtaining a rain barrel.

  121. Jean on April 22nd, 2008 8:55 am

    Cloth diapering! I’m loving it!

  122. Erika on April 22nd, 2008 9:07 am

OOh, ok — I’ve really done my best to go green this past year! I’ve switched to all non-toxic and organic cleaning products, I only feed my toddler organic food and drinks (we try to eat organic whenever possible as well), and I’ve switched to Born Free sippy cups and Natursutten Pacifiers for my little one. We also use organic shampoo and body wash, and try to limit our water and energy use. Whew!

I have been wanting to switch to re-usable bags for a while now, but my husband refuses to do it because he thinks the canvas sacks look dorky. Maybe these will entice him to be a little braver. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  123. Jessica on April 22nd, 2008 9:11 am

I try to use paper bags instead of plastic, and reuse them. This bag would be so much better though!!

  124. Ali on April 22nd, 2008 9:17 am

I unplug appliances (microwave, toaster, coffee pot) when I’m not using them. And have a motion-detected porch light so that it only comes on when I need it at night instead of leaving it on all day when I know I’ll be working late.

  125. Jenna on April 22nd, 2008 9:19 am

Those are so cute! I have switched all of our lightbulbs to the low-watt bulbs (not a lot… but I think it helps).

  126. Angela on April 22nd, 2008 9:22 am

Great sacks! Like many people, we use reusable water bottles. Any containers we do bring into the house that can be reused, I try to use them in our craft projects. There are so many creative ways to use cardboard, plastic containers, glass jars, and even tin cans. Its a cheap, easy and fun way to reuse everyday items.

  127. Tanya on April 22nd, 2008 9:26 am

We took out our landscaping and relandscaped without grass and with lots of various food growing.

  128. grams on April 22nd, 2008 9:30 am

Great looking bags. We have been swithching to reuseable bags, but are using a store brands bags and they are ugly. These would be a nice replacement.

  129. cassie on April 22nd, 2008 9:41 am

Interestingly we are trying to develop a collection of reusable bags for grocery shopping. We need many since we only go once a month and buy two carts worth of groceries. We also switched to compact flourescents. We have stopped buying any product that we know contains bpa or phthalates-they’re not just bad for our bodies, they’re bad for the environment too. Thanks for this chance to win. And thanks for bringing awareness to environmental issues.

  130. Heather on April 22nd, 2008 9:45 am

My cloth bags are SO old and SO boring. (I’ve had them for FOURTEEN YEARS!!) These new Envirosax are really cool!

  131. Mindy on April 22nd, 2008 9:48 am

I would love these bags! Lately, we’ve been slowly replacing our regular light bulbs with energy efficient light bulbs.

  132. Mary @ Adventures in Mommyland on April 22nd, 2008 9:51 am

One change we have made is that we switched over to the new lightbulbs. Great giveaway, thanks!

  134. Theresa Shafer on April 22nd, 2008 10:13 am

waterproof - I did not know that. Thank you for helping the earth remain green.

For a while hubby and me lived with his ma on the cow farm. Hubby is a genius and was working on a bio-fuel. He was trying to convert the cow patties into usable methane.

He gathered the cow poop, preformed experiments on it and was at the stage where he had metal tanks full of the almost perfected fuel. One of tanks blow it’s top. Up into the sky went a perfectly shaped round, thin, 3 foot long and growing longer as it traveled up into the air, dark, solid piece of …..

When it hit the ground it had turned on it’s side.

    The rest of the story:

Mother-in-law was convinced that one of her cow was sick. It looked like a cow had a terrible case of runs made while it was running in a straight line.

This happened over 27 years ago and he is still trying to find ways to save this Earth.

  135. tuesday on April 22nd, 2008 10:16 am

No more water bottles, energy saving appliances and lightbulbs and using reusable grocery bags are some of the ways we are doing our part!

  136. Genevieve on April 22nd, 2008 10:16 am

We use CFL bulbs. I (almost always : )) use cloth diapers, and dry our clothes on the clothesline. I use canvas shopping bags. I usually make our own bread, and in general we buy almost no processed food. We use the AC/heat sparingly–we keep the house at 64 in winter, 80 in summer. We have low flow shower heads, and my husband turns the shower off while he’s soaping up, but I’m not that gung ho. : ) We buy cage-free eggs/poultry and free-range beef. Umm… that’s all I can think of right now. : )

  138. lace on April 22nd, 2008 10:28 am

We have the ugly 99c. store brand bags and they are not cute in any way and they are huge even when folded. I would love some cute bags that fold up small.

G ave up plastic water bottles
    R ide my bike
E at organic when I can
    E liminated paper plates
    N o toxic cleaners

  139. Laura on April 22nd, 2008 10:35 am

  140. Rachel on April 22nd, 2008 10:36 am

I do the ultimate recycling and buy nearly all my families clothes/shoes/toys at garage sales! Plus, I save money!

  141. Erin on April 22nd, 2008 10:52 am

I bought SIGG bottles for the whole family so we don’t use plastic water bottles now.

  142. Kati on April 22nd, 2008 10:53 am

  143. Staci W. on April 22nd, 2008 10:57 am

We’ve switched to green cleaners and I’ve started re-using bags.

  144. Kaitlin M on April 22nd, 2008 11:16 am

We let mother nature take care of regulating our house’s temperature in the spring, summer, and as long into the fall as we can. We open up the windows and just wear a little less clothing (within reason… decency is still key!). Opposite goes in winter…. we lower the heat and wear sweaters and use blankets.

  145. mama4jc on April 22nd, 2008 11:16 am

We made the switch to cloth diapering our kiddies nad have been using reusable bags as much as we can! :)

  146. Crazy Daisy on April 22nd, 2008 11:18 am

We have been trying to eat less meat. Some weeks are better than others, but we understand the environmental, and personal health impact it has. We have found that even doing “Meatless Monday” or “Fresh Food Friday” Helps!

    Thanks for the great giveaway!

  147. Sharla on April 22nd, 2008 11:25 am

We are just trying to reduce, reuse, and recycle in general. I really would like to start bringing reusable bags to stores. This would give me a great push!

  153. Carma on April 22nd, 2008 11:49 am

We just had our house “overhauled” by a professional through the local HEAP agency. They came out, changed all of our bulbs to the enviro bulbs, checked our appliances and told us how much we could save by making little changes (such as using cold water to wash clothes). I also don’t use throw away water bottles anymore — everyone in my house has their own plastic one now. GREAT giveaway!!

  154. Mae on April 22nd, 2008 12:04 pm

I switched from disposable diapers to flushables!!!! Need to move away from plastic bags.

  155. Kristie on April 22nd, 2008 12:04 pm

Our family likes to can our vegetables from our garden, we also eat our own beef, we’ve never been ones to buy bottled water-we’ve always drank from the tap. There are so many more things that I’d like to do including using reusable grocery bags and using “green” household cleaners. Although, I don’t clean as much as I probably should, so I must be cutting out some chemicals in the air that way! :-)

  156. Risa on April 22nd, 2008 12:26 pm

Going green has become a passion for me. I love the concept and when I think about it, it’s really just living how people use to live.

In our house, we have a few things that we’ve started…
-NO MORE PAPER PLATES….this was a hard one because my children wash the dishes….they did not like me for a while after this new rule was invented….
-RECYCLED BAGS FOR THE STORE….my kids and husband will not use these….I love them…..they are in every car and I even have one that I can fold that is always in my purse….I have no excuses…..
-NO MORE PLASTIC WATER BOTTLES…..I just refill the few I have and I just use a glass when I’m at home….
-MORNING COFFEE….when I stop for my morning coffee, I have my own coffee mug (of course it’s tall with a lid)….not only am I helping the earth, I’m charge for a refill and it 50% cheaper…..

  157. Cindi on April 22nd, 2008 12:31 pm

Happy Earth Day! Your giveaway retro reusable bags are great looking. The biggest change our family has made thus far is turning down the water heater temperature and taking shorter showers. We also try to do several errands at one time, instead of making several trips! Please enter me in your delightful drawing. Thanks very much…..Cindi

    Thanks again!

As a dog owner, I’ve always used plastic grocery store bags to pick up poop. I assumed I was recycling…until I found out that they sit in landfills.

I’ve recently switched to biodegradable poop bags (Biobags) and would LOVE some new Envirosax to replace my tattered reusable cloth bags!

  160. Suzanne on April 22nd, 2008 12:41 pm

While I’m not yet willing to give up all of my incandescent light bulbs, I am making a conscious effort to air dry more of our clothing. I’m filling up both of my drying racks, and one of these days, I’ll figure out where to put my too-short clothesline in the backyard. Well, actually, that should read, “where my husband will put my too-short clothesline.” I have no talent for installing things.

We’ve changed out all of our light bulbs to the new fluorescents. We also use our own tap water in water bottles as opposed to buying bottled water.

  196. Katja on April 22nd, 2008 5:02 pm

We don’t have trash removal service. We make so little trash that our neighbour takes it to the landfill every other month for us with his trash. We recycle everything, and purchase only things that are easy to recycle. This of course means no paper towels, nothing disposable and nothing individually wrapped.

I would love to win these bags, I actually don’t have reusable shopping bags. I never buy trash bags from the store though - I re-use the grocery bags as trash bags. The paper bags are great for collecting and recycling all the other paper products.

  197. Andrea on April 22nd, 2008 5:02 pm

we’ve made the change to cloth diapers and wipes. Hey.. I may have to have a lil poop in my washer, put my hands in some poop to pull out an insert… waddling poop isn’t all that bad. Ha ha! But it’s better for the environment. =)

I’ve been planning on switching to these kind of bags, but haven’t put the money into them yet. Enter me please.

  198. Shannon on April 22nd, 2008 5:31 pm

We’ve recently started recycling…I know, horrible that we didn’t start sooner! It’s amazing how it cuts down on the trash…especially with as many boys as I’ve got!

These bags look great! I’ve been wanting to make myself some bags to take to the grocery store!

  199. Reiza on April 22nd, 2008 5:32 pm

We potty trained the baby early. Does that count? We did a combo of cloth dipes and disposables with him, so now that he’s out of diapers, there’s less water being used for washing and no more plastic diapers going into the landfills as a result of his bum.

Just in case that doesn’t count, we’re also trying to simplify. If we buy less, then we’ll have less waste. When we give away what we already have, but don’t really need, then we’re recycling those things and they won’t wind up in the landfills.

  200. monica on April 22nd, 2008 5:51 pm

I hang our laundry out to dry. Those are cute bags! monk5@charter.net

  201. Krista on April 22nd, 2008 6:02 pm

I LOVE your header! It just says spring and energy to me! And I could use some of that around here!

We use cloth diapers (not so fun this week with a sick kid) and I keep trying to remember to take my reusable bags into the store with me when I go shopping. ‘cuz you know they do a LOT of good sitting in my car! ;)

  202. Linda Hux on April 22nd, 2008 6:04 pm

In a conscientious effort to save on our water bill, my husband and I shower together! It’s definitely a win-win situation!

  203. Sarah Page on April 22nd, 2008 6:28 pm

So cute! Our compost pile is making black gold for our organic garden as we speak. Yay! for summer and for fresh veggies.

  204. Denise on April 22nd, 2008 6:32 pm

I’ve been using natural cleaners lately (vinegar/baking soda) and I make my own laundry soap. I’ve been saving $!! I’d love to take these bags to Aldi when I shop!

  205. Anita on April 22nd, 2008 6:40 pm

We’ve started using the cloth grocery bags, and no longer buy bottled water - we have reusable bottles that we use.

  206. TheAngelForever on April 22nd, 2008 6:42 pm

We have made a lot of changes in the last year. I primarily use cold water to wash clothing. We keep our heat lowered and use lots of blankets in the winter. Plastic bags are almost never used, instead for lunches we use reusable containers and reusable totes for shopping.

    Thanks for the great giveaway!

  207. mzzterry on April 22nd, 2008 6:43 pm

I have switched to more green cleaners. New light bulbs. No plastic bags or bottles. Giving lots to goodwill as we simplify our lifestyle. reusing or repurposing with forethought.

  208. LaDonna on April 22nd, 2008 6:46 pm

    WOW. That’s a great giveaway!!!

I am switching back to cloth diapers.

  209. amira on April 22nd, 2008 6:56 pm

We have recently started shopping at a farmers market to support local farmers and to reduce our carbon footprint

  210. Gina on April 22nd, 2008 7:09 pm

We’re trying to use more ‘green’ and ‘natural’ products in our life.

    Thanks!

  211. charmed on April 22nd, 2008 7:10 pm

We are using compact light bulbs, and I’m cooking more from scratch to cut down on our waste… paper waste that is. lol.

  212. Someone Being Me on April 22nd, 2008 7:12 pm

I love those bags. They are so cute. I have recently started using vinegar and water for an all purpose cleaner instead of the chemical kinds. We also replaced all the light bulbs in the house with squiggly ones.

  213. Elaine Rosser on April 22nd, 2008 7:13 pm

We have already stopped using plastic bags when shopping, only miss plastic bags when out walking the dog!!

  214. Laura on April 22nd, 2008 7:16 pm

We keep lots of reusable bags in our car for any shopping trip, and always take mugs with us for coffee instead of getting disposable cups. We also switched coffeeshops to one that uses only organic fair trade beans and syrups.

  215. Christina on April 22nd, 2008 7:22 pm

I have started using organic toothpaste, deodorant and shampoo.

  216. Stacey on April 22nd, 2008 7:26 pm

I’ve tried to be better about being green. We have installed a digital thermostat, energy efficient lightbulbs, and I will often times tell the cashier I don’t need a bag. They look at me like I’m crazy as I carry my few things out of the store, but I don’t need another plastic bag and neither does the environment.

  217. nottryingforaboy on April 22nd, 2008 7:45 pm

Those are so awesome! I love the retro look.

I’m in the process of trying to make my home and life greener. We already do things like cloth diaper, use CFL, local CSA shareholders, recycle, but the big one is that we added insulation to our house to make it more efficient.

  218. CanCan on April 22nd, 2008 7:47 pm

We switched to cloth everything (except toilet paper. I’m not ready for that). I even started a green blog! Now that is commitment!

  219. Elaine on April 22nd, 2008 8:00 pm

We have already made the change to re-usable bags but some of them are already falling apart. These would be wonderful! Thanks!

  220. Becky on April 22nd, 2008 8:02 pm

I use cloth napkins instead of paper ones at the dinner table.

  221. Audra Marie on April 22nd, 2008 8:07 pm

I’ve switched the girls and I to cloth pads (and I just bought a cup to try), we’re cutting out as much processed food as we can, hoping to plant our first garden this year…we’re really trying to become greener around here a little at a time. :)

  222. Shilo Beedy on April 22nd, 2008 8:11 pm

I love these bags! I have changed a couple light bulbs to the energy efficient ones. I reuse plastic bags and plastic water bottles. But I would do anything for these bags! We usually shop about every two to three weeks and fill a cart full! Plus I give away things if people have a use for it rather then throwing it out!

  223. julie g on April 22nd, 2008 8:11 pm

i haven’t been as good as i should but starting at the beginning of the year i ordered a big trash can from our trash removal company just for recylcing. we are soooo good about it now! great giveaway - i’ve been looking into bags like these!

  224. Meg on April 22nd, 2008 8:12 pm

I know it isn’t much, but we turn off our computer more often (at night, mostly)….we used to NEVER turn it off. Thanks for the great giveaway! ( meg.wilson@gmail.com )

  225. phyllis on April 22nd, 2008 8:13 pm

we use only reusable grocery bags now and my newest project is getting rid of our paper towels…or at least reducing the use of them.

  226. Carrie on April 22nd, 2008 8:31 pm

I’ve recently started using reusable water bottles!!! Why didn’t I do it sooner?? What a goof-ball, anyway, the bags look fantastic and I would love to start using them! Thanks for the offer!

  227. Joy on April 22nd, 2008 8:40 pm

Where do I begin? Going Green is something I’ve practiced since learning RRR in elementary school. We recycle, use CFLs, wash on cold water, wash dishes by hand, etc. I want to put a clotheslines in the backyard and a compost pile.

I have looked for cute reusable bags but haven’t been able to afford them and I have no seen any as cute as these! Please add me to the giveaway! Be blessed!

  228. Angie P. on April 22nd, 2008 9:19 pm

I have begun taking my own bags to the supermarket, and cut down on using bottled water. Gotta start somewhere…

  229. mitchypoo on April 22nd, 2008 9:24 pm

I shut the water off when brushing my teeth and I find wool sweaters at thrift stores and recycle the yarn. I may not like the sweater, but I ball it up and knit it into something useful for me.

  230. Louise Brouillette on April 22nd, 2008 9:31 pm

In addition to my Prius, I hang my laundry to dry

  231. Allen Bivins on April 22nd, 2008 9:54 pm

“SNAP!” Much better than the cloth bags I am using now :( phone, drug. boat, and bank logo’s on them. sure would like to win…..

  232. Victoria Ross on April 22nd, 2008 10:13 pm

And all this time I’ve been walking around with these reusable bags under my eyes!!

  233. Kristie Belding on April 22nd, 2008 10:14 pm

Coming from MI recycling pop cans and bottle was second nature… Who could pass up an easy .10? My father would embarrass us kids by stopping in the middle of the road or parking lot to pick one up if he got the chance. He would point out that the extra cash would help pay for gas and taking us kids out bowling or to the movies. It would be one thing if we were strapped for cash, but he has a pretty good Automotive factory job. I must say his Depression era parents did a great job of a imparting a healthy dose of financial common sense into their four children.

Less then two years ago I moved to Texas and got married. My new husband wasn’t much into recycling, but I have since changed his ways and showed him how fun and easy it really is.

His small mobile computer business gives him ample opportunity to recycle a multitude of unwanted cable and gadgets, not to mention more soda cans then you can shake a stick at!

My first avenue of attach was to find a recycler who gave $2 bills in their change, which instantly got his attention, then I made it even easier by purchasing three colored trash bins from Ace hardware

    Black: Cable/copper
    Green: Aluminum/steel
    Red: electronics

Paper, cardboard, and glass to into the city’s green home recycle bins.

We now rid our home based business of clutter and once a month have enough set aside for a fun dates and other family activities!

  234. Tracy Iglesias on April 22nd, 2008 10:23 pm

I’ve been embracing a ‘greener’ lifestyle, reusable bags were one of my few holdouts because I always thought the bags were so lame until now! I actually LIKE these and would gladly make the switch to bringing my own bags to the supermarket with bags this cool. I wasn’t willing to use the ever popular, “I’m Not A Plastic Bag” bags….

  235. Jessie R. on April 22nd, 2008 11:27 pm

We use reusable shopping bags, more efficient light bulbs, we recycle, and among other things we stopped buying cases of plastic water bottles! Thanks!

  236. bob on April 23rd, 2008 2:23 am

I’ve argued (playfully) with the Kentucky grocery clerks. They start putting my stuff in plastic throwaway bags after I tell them I have my own bag. I say, “trying to save the planet here”.

  237. Carol on April 23rd, 2008 2:27 am

I hope I win. I feel like an old bag today, so I could use a new one!

  238. Shannon on April 23rd, 2008 2:32 am

We changed out all of our lightbulbs to the eco friendly energy efficient type, and I use non toxic cleansers.

    Shannon

  239. Cynthia C on April 23rd, 2008 3:19 am

I sprinkle my used coffee grounds around the flower beds. Thanks for the chance to win.

  240. Huguette E. on April 23rd, 2008 3:57 am

We changed all our lightbulbs to the energy efficient type, I unplug unused appliances, turn down the heat. Our next steps are composting and not using plastic bags, so this would be a great start :)

  241. margaret herrin on April 23rd, 2008 4:08 am

    We re-use, reduce then recycle.

  242. Sydney Mathis on April 23rd, 2008 4:29 am

We are fairly green, but like some school report cards, need improvement. These are awesome bags to help end the era of plastic bags. Now if we could only do something about the bags under my eyes…….

  243. Jenn on April 23rd, 2008 4:34 am

We started using Freecycle-ing…and composting by default since my kids leave apple cores under the couch!

  244. Karen M on April 23rd, 2008 4:49 am

I have stopped using plastic bags at the store and bought canvas bags to reuse each time instead!

  245. Anne Angelopoulos on April 23rd, 2008 4:50 am

In order to cut down on styrofoam which is so hard to recycle, I know take a plastic reusable container when I go out to eat, and if I have any leftovers, I put them in there!

  246. chris swanson on April 23rd, 2008 5:05 am

The kids and I love to recycle they gladly take out the recycling. What a way to get them the help without the nagging.
